I was a whore at 16

Rants and Ramblings

A movie whore that is. The year I turned 16 was 1990 and yes that means I will be 36 this year. Let’s see if much has changed in 20 years. First let’s take a look at some films I loved the year they came out and then we will look at a few I love now from that year.

Hurry up and wait

Rants and Ramblings

I’ve been attached to a particular film project for the last 2 years and yesterday I had a very productive hour only to be sitting and waiting yet again.

There’s a lot of waiting to be done in this business that is film. You’re waiting for a director to read a script, you’re waiting for a writer to make changes to a script, you’re waiting for a script editor to return their notes and you’re waiting to hear back from an actor or their agent. You are always waiting on something. If you have no patience and desperately want things to happen now, get the fuck out of the business.

I didn’t have cable and it was years before streaming video, but when I was a kid I watched the movie specials. You know like USA’s “Up all night” with Rhonda Shear, whatever bad movie was on TNT and every weekend watching BEASTMASTER on TBS and whatever I could talk my parents into renting.

“The Trailer” by Darkscapes

Rants and Ramblings

In the Mar 08 issue of Paracinema Magazine, I wrote a piece covering the music of Frank Hennenlotter’s  B-movie classic Basket Case. It’s a story about a young man who has his deformed brother attached to his side and the murderous spree that takes place after they are separated.  A number of months later I was contacted by an old friend who had seen my name in the publication. He wanted to see if I was interested in shooting one of my million ideas.  I have to say that I was flattered and decided to give a short ghost story that I wrote in community college a whirl as it was well within  ‘short ‘ range.  I began to work out the story on a property that I was living on and the abandoned one connected to it. I knew that I had to take advantage of this rare double location opportunity and the wheels began to roll.

Welcome Darkscapes Productions to The Movie Whore

Rants and Ramblings

This site has done more than get me going in a direction that will lead to my own career in film, but has also given me the opportunity to meet some very talented people who share the dream. One of those people is the brains behind Darkscapes Productions, John Begley. I have asked John and others that i work with to start sharing some of their stories of how they are making that dream of working in film come true.
