I was watching Knocked Up this morning and there is a scene where they talk about Broke Back Mountain and how it was disappointing that there was no love scene as if we just can’t handle it.

I think they were on to something there. Really think about how many movies you have seen with gay characters and there was no love scene.

I am not saying I want to see it but I think it is only fair. There was this movie called Gypsy 83 that I picked up at the video store that had a gay love scene in it. While I really am not one to want to watch two men having sex the scene fit the context of the story and was definitely called for.

There is also this other flick called Bound with the lovely Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly. There was a scene or 2 in there that was quite graphic but again it fit the story.

I realize we live in a world that is afraid of showing us gay sex almost as if they think it is contagious and that showing such things would possibly make you gay. That is ridiculous and small minded thinking that just really irritates the hell out of me.

Then you have the religious reich right. The zealots still have the loudest voice and fight like hell to keep gay love out of the mainstream claiming it is evil and will corrupt our youth.

It is this kind of thinking that plays a part in keeping us segregated as a people. Instead of accepting one another regardless of race, religion, sex, sexual preference and any other labels the world uses to segregate people from each other, we allow these labels to be used and use them to segregate our cinema.

This is maddening to me. The gay community (includes lesbians because after all they are gay too.) has every right to have their life choices represented in cinema as much as any minority or majority group.

There is nothing evil or obscene about 2 people having sex regardless of the combination. As long as they are 2 consenting adults I see no need to keep their lovemaking off the screen.

This should not be a  religious issue but a human issue.
