A few weeks ago Rotten Tomatoes put together their top 50 Movies that are based on a TV show list and took much grief over it. Here is why.

There are not 50 good movies based on TV shows. Let’s look at the ones I actually thought belonged. I have omitted a couple like Blues Brothers and Wayne’s World only because they were not a show them selves but short sketches. I can see a completely different list of movies born from sketch comedy.

Naked Gun: If you have never seen Police Squad you are missing out. C heck out this clip and realize they were doing this long before there was ever a movie.

Addams Family: Raul Julia was the perfect choice for Gomez Addams. he captured the brilliance of the character that was originally played by John Astin.  I even loved Angelica Huston as Morticia. They really did a great job with this movie trying to capture the magic that is The Addams Family.

Star Trek, most of them: I don’t care whether it is the original series or the next generation I will sit down and watch these any time they come on.  No other franchise in history has had both the theatrical and box office success of Gene Rodenberry’s creation.

Brady Bunch: Shut it. I loved this flick only because I grew up on the show and they did a masterful job of capturing all those special Brady moments. I absolutely loved Gary Cole as Mike Brady. He was Brilliant in his portrayal of one of Americas most identifiable dads.

Mission Impossible: You know I avoid talking about Tom Cruise as much as possible after his Scientology crusade began a couple years ago but you can deny that the man has made some some good movies. I felt they really took concept from the original show to a new level. I was very happy with this flick.

Transformers: In a word, Bodacity to the extreme! I loved it and I can’t wait for the next one. I saw it 3 times in the theater and watched it at least another 6 times since I bought it. This movie was absolute proof that we should leave Michael Bay alone and let him do his thing.

Serenity: From beginning to end there is not a single thing in this movie that I did not like. This is one of those rare flawless gems that only gets better every time I watch it.

X-Files: I loved the show, I love the movie. Fox Mulder is one of those characters that you can’t help but to root for. Understandably if you are not a fan of the show I can see not liking the movie but it gets my vote.

Maverick: Brilliant. Garner, Gibson and Foster had incredible chemistry and played off each other extremely well. Another one those perfect movies.

MST3K The Movie: I don’t care I loved the show and I really dug the flick. The funny thing is when I saw the movie I had just seen the horribly bad film they were forced to watch a few days earlier on TV and sat through the whole thing. Bonus points to anyone that can tell me the significance of the film that the crew was forced to watch with out looking it up. Hint it has to do with 3 famous words.

The Untouchables: Connery and De Niro. Enough said but I will say more anyway. I loved this flick and thought it was fitting tribute the original show.

The Muppet Movie: How do you not love the Muppets?

South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut: These guys are my heroes. They are masters at social commentary and I will watch anything they do. They have yet to create anything I didn’t like.

The Simpsons Movie: Exactly.

The Fugitive: Tommy Lee Jones did such a great job creating his character they gave him a sequel, kind of. This was an epic show back in the day and I dug the flick. Harrison Ford is one of those guys that even on his worst day he is still at least good.

I am sure there are some others that i have missed maybe you can help me round out the list.  Happy Thursday. Tomorrow is Friday and I have a special interivew for you so be sure to come back and see who is talking to The Movie Whore now.
