Its such a lazy thing to do, really. Remaking 'Cult Classics' is simply the easiest way to make a quick buck. Its a readymade. You only have to write half a script, do half the production-design, half the promotion...etc. All the hard work has been done by the original. When something acheives 'Cult' status, it takes on a certain cultural currency; it becomes almost like a 'brand name' or logo, that stands out in the landscape of popular culture. It becomes vested with a certain 'power' (for lack of a better term). MTV (or whoever it may be) comes along and simply cashes in on that existing 'cool'... But, what are ya gonna do, eh? Lump it, i guess. This isn't the first time its happened, and it wont be the last. Lets just hope we dont see remakes of A Clockwork Orange or Rosemary's Baby or Blade Runner...
