Rocky Horror Picture show to be remade
Rants and Ramblings, What makes a good movie. July 24th, 2008I had posted a topic to get everyone’s feel for the idea of remakes and I personally am against the idea but can admit there have been a couple notable exceptions to the remake rule. However this latest news made this movie whore twitch like nothing ever has. It took me 5 minutes to even be able to speak after reading
Lou Adler, exec producer of the original film, is partnering with Berman Braun and Fox Television Studios on the new rendition.
See the original article here for yourself and feel free to comment on this Cult Legend being remade. Whether you like Rocky Horror or not you can not deny the effect it has had over the years and the legendary status this movie has achieved.
With that said there is only one actor that could even come close to playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter and that is Will Keenan. Will has worked with legendary B-Movie director/producer and independent film crusader, Lloyd Kaufman of Troma Entertainment.
In the film Terror Firmer Will had a few scenes at the end of the movie in which his performance was reminiscent of the brilliant job Tim Curry did in Rocky Horror. Don’t believe me, then go rent a copy of Rocky Horror Picture Show and a copy of Terror Firmer. Watch them back to back and then tell me I am wrong and why.
I am very interested in getting the thoughts of people on this specific remake as everyone has their own take on this Cult Classic.

Typical. Its such a lazy thing to do, really. Remaking ‘Cult Classics’ is simply the easiest way to make a quick buck. Its a readymade. You only have to write half a script, do half the production-design, half the promotion…etc. All the hard work has been done by the original. When something acheives ‘Cult’ status, it takes on a certain cultural currency; it becomes almost like a ‘brand name’ or logo, that stands out in the landscape of popular culture. It becomes vested with a certain ‘power’ (for lack of a better term). MTV (or whoever it may be) comes along and simply cashes in on that existing ‘cool’…
But, what are ya gonna do, eh? Lump it, i guess. This isn’t the first time its happened, and it wont be the last.
Lets just hope we dont see remakes of A Clockwork Orange or Rosemary’s Baby or Blade Runner…
Mark my words…nothing’s safe…
