The Movie Whore Unplugged
Reviews June 27th, 2008WTF does that mean?
Long story short. The last 5 days I have had people in and out of my house and other drama and fixing a 73 VW and damn it I was fucking tired. So yesterday I did the unthinkable. I unplugged at around 4. When I say unplugged I mean the only program I had open on my computer was my iTunes. No email, no web, no TV, no phone, just good music and a good book.
I made Whoreburgers and drank the night away while listening to some of my favorite blues based rock. I was also reading this book by this hack I know. You know I am kidding Chooch. The guy is a hell of a writer and I read one of his books last night Suicide Flowers.
Now first I am going to say that I would not typically read this kind of book. I say this because I typically read Scifi/Fantasy novels. You know Terry Brooks and shit like that.
So I am sitting at home with The Queen of the Geeks and our Whoreburgers. Basically a hamburger stuffed with cheese and bacon on the inside. I sat down with my Bacardi and Cherry Pepsi slushee that The Queen of the Geeks made, kicked up the music, lit up a smoke and started to read.
Raeburn Messiah is the lead singer of the band Aluminum Jesus(AJ), a band that has gone platinum several times over within the last several years. Rae is burned out. He drinks, he does drugs, he cheats on his wife. He’s a douche bag.
Gabriel is a loving husband and one hell of a guy. He is that guy you meet and after 5 seconds you feel as though you have found a life long friend you never knew you had. Gabriel is a huge fan of AJ and has seen them in concert more times than I care to mention. Gabriel is dying of leukemia. Gabriel is about to receive his dying wish. Rae is coming to the hospital to see him.
This does not even scratch the surface of how deep this story dives into the very soul of its characters. It has its ups and downs and is even pretty damn funny. Just wait til you meet Rae’s mom and see what she has to say about Alice Cooper and Howard Stern.
Even though I saw the end of this book coming from a mile away, as the events unfolded I felt a testosterone based urge to hold back the single tear welling up in each eye. I had not realized the emotional commitment that this story drew from me. It was a fun ride and I am glad I read it. Now I suggest you buy it. You can get it here or you can click the link for Chooch over on the right. Maybe if you’re real lucky and ask him real nice he may even sign it for you.
That is how I spent my night. How about you?

Little did you know that you would be unplugged for hours. Laughs. Ok, I am convinced, this is a story I need to read.
