I covered the first 3 and now for the 3 that made us Star Wars fans.  These are my favorites as I connect them with happy childhood memories and really it is those memories I cling to more than the films themselves.

Episode 4 A New Hope: I was 3 years old and this was the first movie I remember seeing in the theater. I loved it then and I love it now. I know we have all at some point made fun of Luke Skywalker for being a whiny bitch but he seems to come through when it counts.

I don’t care what kind of editing you do, Han shot first. I am OK with that. He was a smuggler with a price on his head. He did what he had to do to keep on keeping on. So get over it already.

Who didn’t fall in love the first time they saw Leia laying there in the in that form fitting number. I think the side buns has been one of if no the most used hair gag of all time.

Wookies rule. If only we could have had a scene where Chewie ripped some ones arm clean off. That is something I am still waiting to see.

R2D2 is the robot that we all wanted to have as a kid. He was small and rolled around and had little gadgets to use. We love gadgets so of course R2 was a kick ass sidekick to have along for the ride.

Then you have R2’s sidekick C3PO. Neurotic as hell and never shuts up.  He could very easily been annoying but you loved him.  “New strategy R2. Let the Wookie win.”

Who can forget the first time they saw Darth Vader. Still one of the all time great villains. Add in a massive spaceship that can destroy worlds and a new modern mythology was born. Still one of my favorite movies.

Episode 5 The Empire Strikes Back: “It ends on a down note and that is what life is a series of down notes.” One of my favorite lines from Clerks. This to me was the best of the 6 movies. It had the ultimate twist that had audiences gasping when they heard Vader say “Luke I am your father.” Nothing in any movie has ever had the impact that scene had. It blew people away.

Yoda rocks. If you don’t love Yoda there is something deeply wrong with you. This from a guy that has laundry list of things wrong with him.

Watching Luke grow and begin the transition from whiny bitch farm boy to Jedi Knight was one the best transitions I have seen. This whole movie was nothing but watching the different transitions taking place within each character. Han becomes concerned with something more than saving his own butt and Leia realizes there is something more than the rebellion and maybe she can be more than a figure head and become a person. Again the best of the bunch for my money.

Episode 6 The Return of The Jedi
: Many people say this is their favorite and I can understand why.  It was a lot of fun.

For all the men out there we have all had that Leia gold bikini fantasy.

Luke is all grown up and instead of barely making it through most of the situations that pop up he seems to be in control. Pulling strings of his one to make things happen.

Han realizes he is no longer a smuggler and takes on the responsibility of being a leader in the rebellion.

Vader in this one is quite a surprise and to this day I don’t know if I like the idea of universes ultimate villain having a change of heart. Don’t get me wrong I didn’t hate it but I wasn’t a fan of that moment either.

Then we have the Ewoks. Is it wrong that I cheer as they get blown up?

Being a father I understand the change in direction that Lucas took.  He wanted to make something to entertain his own kids. I still would have rather seen Kashxyyk but really the Storm Troopers would have been at a disadvantage. It actually makes sense for the inhabitants to be small non threatening creatures that the Empire would basically ignore.  Overall it’s a good flick.

There you have it, my thoughts on 2 of the biggest Scifi franchises.  I think to end the week we are going to take trip down the rabbit hole. Can you guess which franchise I am talking about?

Have fun kids and let me know what you think, specially if you disagree.
