The Movie Whore on animated flicks
Rants and Ramblings, The Whore's Lists June 17th, 2008I am not talking Disney here kids. I am talking animation for us. Let’s take a look and see what we have.
Wizards: This is a flick that is a must see. Get used to hearing that. Wizards is that movie that separated the geeks form the crowd in high school. It was the geeks that knew this movie even existed and we loved it.
Ninja Scrolls: This movie is why we watch anime. Sex and violence. Blood galore. If you ever want to see fun ways to kill people then check this flick out.
Pat Labor: This one was quite interesting. I went through this six month anime kick a few years ago and was just renting 3-4 flicks a week for 6 months. I tripped across the movie and then found the series. I liked the movie much more then series. Great death and carnage but with and interesting story.
Vampire Hunter D: New take on the Dracula mythology. I really enjoyed this flick not just for the blood suckers and slayings but it also had a decent story.
Howl’s Moving Castle: Bale is the man. He is the voiced of Howl. I watched this for the first time a few weeks ago and It was quite visually stunning. Definitely a cool flick and one the favorite of The Queen of the Geeks.
A Scanner Darkly: The first time I saw it it was the animation that had me walking out of theater wondering whether or not I liked it. I watched it a second time and loved it. It is just one of those movies you have to watch twice to get it.
The Hobbit: While I am looking forward to seeing what Del Torro does with he live action version of this tale I loved this one as a kid and I will still give it a watch once in a while.
Spawn: McFarland is the master. I loved the animated version of his comic nightmare hero.
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within: When this came out I was totally blown away. I am actually surprised I don’t own this flick. This was the first movie of it’s kind and it took several viewing to stop paying attention to how awesome it looked and actually pay attention to the story.
Watership Down: This is not a kids movie. I saw it as a kid and never saw rabbits as cute and cuddly again. There is something about killer rabbits at war that makes the bunny in Monty Python’s search for the Holy Grail believable. Adult themes and graphic violence makes this one something to watch after the kids go to bed.
There are several more I could list here so why don’t you help me out and drop some comments on some your favorite animated flicks that just are not made for the kids.

Ninja Scrolls and Vampire Hunter D are two top animated films on my list. A couple buddies of mine were anime fiends and they got me into the genre. Ghost in the Shell also kicked some serious ass.
…and I am not ashamed to admit there are a great many Disney films that I do still enjoy.

Ok…when Watership Down came out in the theaters, my grandparents went to see it. My grandfather a WW2 vet, sits through five minutes and storms out and calls my Dad, “I thought it was a war movie and then I see f*****g rabbits bouncing around the screen. Rabbits!” It is still on of my favorite movies and book. Nice list.
