A lot of horror movies get made. Few of them creep me out. Fewer still creep me out more than once. Here are some rules to making your horror flick a creepy as possible.

1. Puppets are creepy as hell.

Think about the first time as a kid when you watched Poltergeist. That damn clown was in my dreams for a month when I first saw this flick. Now jump forward to a couple years ago when Dead Silence came out.  I sat down and watched this and next thing you know I was getting up to turn all the lights in the apartment.

Now you can screw up your use of puppets as well.  Chucky anyone?

2. Find a creepy little girl.

Resident Evil had this creepy little girl as the hologram representation of the computer system. It creeps people out. Really it is not so much about the girl but her voice. You want to find the right little girl with the right voice and then you have potential to make you audience afraid of the dark.

3. Less is more.

Think of the original Alien and The Descent. There was the distinct absence of sound put you on the edge of seat and then made you jump out of it when shit comes out of nowhere to do some damage.

This also goes for what they show you. The creepiest flicks show you little and let your imagination run wild. This worked great for me when I saw The House on Haunted Hill remake in theater some years ago.  You can scare yourself much more than anyone else can scare you.

4. Whisper.

In the movie Rose Red you periodically hear these whispers that frankly again had me turning on every light in the apartment at 2 am.

These a few of the things you can do to raise the creep factor in your next horror flick.

Now let me touch on something off topic but needs to be addressed.  While writing this I received an email through the contact form on this site. This email turned me onto to something that you may be hearing about in the future. I just want to remind you that if you come across anything out there that you think The Movie Whore needs to check out then hit me up.  You never know it may just show up here.
