Movies from your childhood the light side of the force
The Whore's Lists May 16th, 2008So we talked about the movies we loved then but now make us twitch. Now let’s look at the ones we loved that we will always love.
Tron: If you don’t like this movie there is something wrong with you. Something like being born after certain year. Yes this is that over 30 bullshit that you love to complain about. But hey this movie set the stage for all CGI. So even if you don’t like it you can’t deny it’s place in history and the contribution to film making.
The Last Starfighter: I have been bringing this movie up a lot lately. I can’t help it, I love this flick. This was the other CGI marvel that changed the course of film making. How can you not love this movie. This was every kids dream. I mean hell when I was a kid I would dream of something like that happening. Having my favorite game turn out to be real and then get to not play but do the real thing. I would have exploded. Take that however you wish it is your own sick mind.
Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope: I don’t want to hear it. This is far and away one film I will always love. This movie and franchise was my childhood. Between that and the next flick on the list. When I was a kid it was all about Star Wars. I can tell you where you I hit my first personal generation gap with this movie. If you were alive when this came out and if you were not alive when this came out. I tend to find a big fuck difference in attitudes towards a lot of things just by using this movie as a measuring stick.
Raiders of the Lost Ark: Poster is hanging in my living room. This is what and action adventure movie is supposed to be. Our hero was tough, smart and human. Not to mention this flick made bull whips cool. Can you think of how many times as a kid you tried to use anything you could as a whip. I do. I still love this movie and will sit down and watch it every so often.
Labyrinth: This movie is directly responsible for the great lust love I have for Jennifer Connelly. Even now I watch this flick and I am entertained. It has that right mix of weird things that makes it good.
The Goonies: I will never get tired of watching The Goonies. There is something wonderful about this movie that takes me back to a day when I believed in such things and awakens a longing to believe in them again. Who didn’t want to go on a treasure hunt with a weird kid that made his own gadgets. It was the thing I wanted to do then and I would probably still give it a go now. Yes, I know.
Gremlins: I love this flick and to those that say nay, piss off. It was an original flick with something we had not seen before and really have not seen since. Great movie and I can not believe I do not have it on DVD.
Real Genius: Val Kilmer’s second movie I believe and more one liners than you could shake a stick at. One of my all time favorite quotes comes from this movie.
“I believe it was Socrates who said, I drank what?”
I never get tired of watching this flick. As a matter of fact I am gong to throw it in now.
Princess Bride: If you hate this movie may God have mercy on your soul. This is what I call a perfect movie. There is not one part of this movie I don’t love.
Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure: Kiss my ass this is my list. I have seen this movie more times than I can count. I burned out a VHS copy of this movie. I have it on DVD and watch it once every other month or so. Hell, if I right an autobiography I am calling it “Strange things are a foot at the Circle K.” I love this movie and to watch this movie with me is sheer torture as I know every single line and can not stop myself from quoting right along with the movie. I am in fact that guy.
So there is ten. I bet we could come up with quite few more. Oh and if you like any of this stuff, do me a favor and hit that little thumbs up button on Stumble. I would appreciate it greatly. Have fun kids.

I loved Labyrinth at the time but now it makes me a little uncomfortable to watch a movie with so many muppets mixed with David Bowie. Isn’t that the only movie Jennifer Connelly’s ever starred in where she didn’t get at least partially nekkid?

Unfortunately TMW, the Lords of Stumble do not like your presence.
As far as replication Indiana’s whips I can fully relate to your point. I used to find branches of fresh saplings what were flexible enough to still make a poor excuse for a crappy whip. But that didn’t stop me from living, breathing, and thinking as Indiana Jones.
I can safely say that this series is at least partly responsible for my fascination with History - especially ancient history.

Jason she kept her clothes on in Opportunity Knocks, Rocketeer and Dark City just off the top of my head.
Greg I have the same fascination because of the Indy flicks.

As far as the Lords of Stumble are concerned if they don’t like it oh well. I am not going away anytime soon.
I have been getting a little stumble traffic lately. If more people hit the thumbs up it would be nice.

“And Kent, stop touching yourself.”
I have to agree with most of your list. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Tron all the way through. If I have, it’s been a long time ago.
I’ve never seen Labyrinth, but I think I’ve seen bits of it. Bowie was in it, wasn’t he?
I don’t know if you’ve seen, but I have movie quotes on my site, and I also do one word movie reviews, though I haven’t done one for a while. It’s fun trying to come up with one word to describe an entire movie.

I agree with the list. The Goonies and Gremlins were awesome films when I was growing up. I chose The Goonies over Ghostbusters (owas was it GB2?) when asked what film I wanted to see at the cinema. Happy days.

Sy, you reminded me of a childhood classic of mine. I think Ghostbusters (Stay Puff Marshmellow Man version only) could be appended at the end of this list.

Ghostbusters was a great film. Absolute mindless escapism as a child, but the more you watch it as an adult, the more you see those little jokes you wouldnt see as a kid.

The original Ghostbusters is a classic and there are several other flicks I can think of. I can see returning to this topic in the future.

Hey, I left a comment with a couple links, it might have got caught as spam. Or deleted.

Yeah it got sent to the spam box. I pulled it out. You should see it now. I have been getting a quite few spam attempts lately so I check the box a few times a day.
I am definitely going to check that stuff out.

Sy, I love re-watching stuff from my childhood and catching the subtle adult jokes that were way over my head as a kid. It adds a great dimension and replay value to any form of media really.

It is amazing just how much stuff has that content! I love watching animated films now because they are so full of the adult humor. But now I really wanna watch Ghostbusters again!

I was thinking. Better Off Dead is a classic. I don’t think I’d lump One Crazy Summer in there, though it is funny. 16 Candles has it’s moments as well.

Sy and Greg. See how many times you can rewatch Airplane before you no longer find something new each time.
Steve, I am a huge Cusack fan. If he was in it it’s a classic.

Oh yeah, Airplane is one of those films you HAVE to watch so many times over. That film will be a classic forever.
