Did it say something personal?
Rants and Ramblings, The Whore's Lists May 7th, 2008We all have those movies that speak to us on a personal level. I was recently reminded of this after having a particularly bad start to my day. How I bounced back was to sit and watch Clerks 2. Hit helped center me. I have the same feelings in regards to the first Clerks. At the time I could not explain why it would center me but I have been thinking about it the last couple days and I believe I figured it out.
When I saw Clerks I was working in a video store attached to a liquor store. In California it doubles a Quick Stop. So the movie spoke to me on a personal level. This was the life I was leading. Then Clerks 2 came out and I found myself not having the same feeling until just the other day. I have been meandering around life but never really doing anything with my life. That was until I started this site. This site is my dream. I am working my ass off to see it through.
Other movies that have had a personal effect.
Eddie and the Cruisers: Words and Music. Dialog that changed the way I looked at music.
Grosse Point Blank: I think I identified with this character more than any character in cinema history. It very well could have been me.
High Fidelity: The base of this character is me. Very much the way I have seen past relationships and a journey I often thought of taking,
Dogma: Helped me deal with my own crisis of faith.
Dazed and Confused: I still swear I went to school with thise guys. I even knew the crepepy old guy that still dated the high school girls.
These are but a few of the prominent ones that I never get tired of watching and sometimes help me deal with a bad day. What movie speak to you?

I’m with you 100% on both “Clerks” and “High Fidelity” - for essentially the same reasons. I’ll add a few more to the list.
“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” - bang on movie about heartbreak and how fucked up love can be. I think there is atleast one scene in this movie that everybody can pull from the pages of their own life.
“The World According to Garp” - plays like a persons own personal life-highlight-reel while staying always staying honest to the way things really are.
“Fight Club” - Even when I was a teenager this movie spoke to me and now having a corportae 9-to-5 I’m even closer to the flame. This is your life and it’s ending one minute at a time…
I’m sure I’m missing a whole bunch more, but these were the ones that immediately sprung to mind. Great post…I hope more people list some more flicks.

I cant say I have ever had a film where I could say that, but I can think of a couple of songs where you can tell what the writer is going through and you can relate directly. I will have to really have a think though as I am sure there are some that must be!
Sys last blog post..Kenneth: A woolly mammoth’s big adventure.

Sy I have the same thing with music. Some songs just hit a nerve and take me back in time. Kind of like the ordering system The main character is working on in High Fidelity with his albums. Great flick if you have not seen it I highly suggest checking it out.
Dom, The world According to Garp is a brilliant flick. One of my favorites.
I worked a corporate job for 10 years and then watched Fight Club. Office Space spoke to me on much more personal and realistic note than Fight Club.
Don’t get me wrong I can see the allure of Fight Club and it was a well done movie just not one I particularly liked. It was good just not my thing. I have taken much shit for this from many people over the years.
