As I have said too many times I am a stumblaholic. One day when hitting my favorite button I came across this site. These folks are in Finland and took 7 years to put this film together. I am assuming a lot of that 7 years was put into the special effects which are pretty damn good and had to be somewhat expensive. They encourage you to download the film for free and give you the bit torrent tracker for easy download. I was able to download it in about 2 hours using uTorrent. My slowest down speed was 50 kBps (kB = kb * 8 so my slow was 400kbps) and my high was just over 100 kBps and my average was around 80kBps. Solid number of seeds. Again the film maker put this torrent out available and encourages you to download it so it is legal.

Since I had a couple hours to wait I checked out their site which I also encourage you to do. I am thinking of buying a t-shirt or 2. I always support indy film makers the best I can. Right now that is with my reviews trying to get you all to check them out. It’s not so much that I am anti-Hollywood as it is that I am tired of the high budget crap that gets made.

Before we get into the review I also want to point out that the film is in Finnish with English subtitles. I point this out for 2 reasons.

1. Translations some times get screwed up and the humor gets lost.

2. It has been my experience that some humor is not universal and is an acquired taste. Meaning that while there are things I did not find too funny in the movie I can see where in Finland it could be a riot.

Let’s jump on in. First off this is a parody combining Star Trek TNG and Babylon 5. I love the concept. I am a big fan of both shows and thought they did a great job with the character parodies. Captain Pirk is a moron. We realize this from the get go and yet some how no matter how much of a jerk this guy is you still find yourself pulling for him at the end.

He starts out on earth modern day after being trapped here when they crashed their ship after traveling back in time. There is a news announcement that the technological advancement that enabled the time line he had come from was not discovered and given up on. So now the future will not happen. This is where the Data and Worf rip offs step in. They are trapped on earth as well.

Pirk gets this brilliant idea to build one of his space crafts and take over the world. This is a parody so I forgive the lack of science that went into this. After he rules the world they build a fleet of ships all of which look very familiar. Again a Start Trek parody would not be complete without the ships. They have several classes from the Star Trek series.

One day they discover a worm whole while in patrol looking for another inhabited planet to take over when out of the worm hole comes a fighter from Babylon five. This of course leads them to follow the wormhole into hyperspace. They see a couple Earth Cruisers and follow them to Babylon 13. From here I will make you watch the movie to find out what happens. But all of your favorite characters are represented and made fun of. I would love to say I really liked this movie but I missed out on a lot the jokes either due to the translation or I personally did not think it was funny but I see where others could. Over all it was worth the watch. If you have a couple hours to kill and nothing better to do then this might fill the time.
