Movies for Movie Whores
Lists April 18th, 2008These are about discovery. I can’t tell you the hours of shit I have sat through to find these gems. You will find that your average movie whore has received gonorrhea of the eye on numerous occasions and keeps a big bottle of penicillin by their favorite movie watching chair or couch. I am not numbering or ranking these because I hate that shit. All of these are entertaining movies that any movie whore should see.
Swimming with Sharks: You may not have heard this one unless you’re a big Kevin Spacey fan. The whole movie is told in a series of flashbacks. The movie opens with Spacey’s assistant showing up to his house and is ready to torture and kill him. The flashbacks detail the year of hell the kid has been through that finally made him snap. Great movie and Kevin Spacey makes a really evil prick boss. Did mention Kevin Spacey plays a movie exec. Go see this flick. One of all time favorites. Yes you here that a lot because any movie whore worth anything has a list of all time favorites longer than any thing you have ever seen.
Duality: Really makes you re-evaluate what you call a bad day. This is a small indy flick made by Door Eleven productions. You can find the interview with the man behind this madness here. I really enjoyed this movie. You have to go into it realizing these guys made this flick for $7,000. That’s less then what Kevin Smith had for Clerks. These guys are really on to something and I am looking forward to their next film. You can see Duality for free here. I am getting a copy and can’t wait until it arrives.
Shoot ‘em up: If Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti had not been in this flick it would have been a waste of time. This is an in your face over the top action movie that takes the gun fight to whole new level. With these 2 great actors it is easy to forgive jumping the shark more times than I can count. I wonder what he is going to do with that carrot?
Mean Machine: This movie is the English (meaning made in England) version of the Longest Yard and one of my favorites. You know the story and the players just change football to futbol (or soccer) and sit back and enjoy the show. Vinnie Jones is great to watch and so is Jason Statham as a homicidal maniac. They did a great job translating this movie over to soccer and really made fun movie.
Saving Grace: So you are an older lady who is on a heap of debt. You are the greatest gardener in the area. Your handy man brings a sick plant, a sick pot plant. You nurse it back to health and grown the biggest buds he has ever seen. Do you see where this going? Now picture 2 old English broads trying to sell pot in London. It’s funnier than you think. One of my favorites.
Primer: Probably the best time travel movie ever made. Also an indy flick starring the filmmaker. The way these guys stick to there science and theories makes it one of the best movies of how time travel just might work. Another film I bought the day after I watched it.
Anything with Bruce Campbell: You know I will always recommend Bruce and anything he does. He is the man and I will pimp out his flicks all day long. Granted I am leery of an Evil Dead remake that does not star Bruce Campbell but everything the man does has great entertainment value. If you don’t own anything by Bruce turn your movie whore card in until you do.

Bruce is one of my heroes. I’ve seen the evil dead trilogy more times than I can count and I try to pass along “Bubba Ho-Tep” to anyone who’s never heard of it. If you bomb around youtube, you can find a really interesting episode of “Dinner for Five” with him [along with Rob Zombie and Roger Corman]. His book is also fucking brilliant. The guy is just the best.

I caught the Dinner for Five. I would love to interview Rob as well and Corman is a legend and I would probably shit myself if I was able to interview him.
I can’t wait to see My Name is Bruce.
Sy I am big Guy Ritchie fan as well. that was a cool short.

They did a load for BMW, but that was the one that Guy did and I think it is freakin awesome. Plus I am a fan of Clive Owen, so it worked all round really.

Clive is a great actor. As soon as I see his name I will watch the flick.
